Off to the races

Every first Wed of the month the Happy Valley Racecourse (conveniently walking distance from my apt) bar, Adrenaline, hosts Ladies Night. Entrance is free, there is an apps buffet, and you get a complimentary drink. This means that not only did I go tonight, but I will be there next month as well.
This bar was swank-ish (although they were serving things like jalepeno poppers - ??) and right on the edge of the track so you can look out over the race. I can't imagine there's a better way to watch a horserace besides maybe being on one of the horses. It was also set up for betting, so there were lots of screens showing the race and standings, and bet stations and a cashier.
The races are very short, only one lap (then a second for them to slow down), and there is a ton of downtime because between each race people have to walk the whole track and fix the grass after it's been torn up by the horses. Just like the scene in Pretty Woman, but these people did it with garden tools.
Most of my race pics are terrible, so I'm not posting any of the pack. In the second one you can see the jockey that fell of his horse right in front of us. He fell off and then his horse GALLOPED OVER HIS LEG!!!!! That's when we understood why an ambulance follows the pack around during the race.
